All-Polish Castle Meetings “Let’s Sing Poetry”– July (Centre for Education and Cultural Initiatives)
At the turn of the 1950s a new kind of artistic song was created – a sung poetry. It was then that poetry was discovered as a source of musical inspirations and poetic song, similarly to student song, was a kind of protest against commercial music.
In 1974 All-Polish Castle Meetings “Let’s Sing Poetry” were initiated as a reaction of the then organizers to the need for an event making use of natural beauty and unique atmosphere of Warmian-Mazurian castle courtyards. The Meetings have a form of a competition and are accompanied by concerts of famous artists. Each year, castle courtyard is a place where the best young artists – amateurs of poetic stanzas and harmonic sounds, believers of traditional values we seem to forget about – meet. A lot of laureates are now outstanding artists coming back to Olsztyn as festival guests, concert organisers, jury members or friends of the initiative. A unique concert scenery makes the audience feel that magic atmosphere of July nights and even heavy rain will not discourage them from listening to lyrical, funny or surprising lyrics of Osiecka, Kofta, Gałczyński, Cave, Waits... All-Polish Castle Meetings “Let’s Sing Poetry” are, above all, a creative meeting of Poetry Friends and the success of that unique event made it one of major attractions of Olsztyn and region.
